Information Requested

Please can you provide all of your ambulance fleet codes. I am aware these are public
information as your colleagues in West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust & Welsh
Ambulance Service NHS Trust have released theirs. Please can you provide a fleet list. The
role, the vehicle make & model, the base the vehicles are attached to. Next, can you please
provide your HART code. Despite Sec 31 of FOIA 2000, this is Public information. Your
colleagues in other trusts have released their HART codes. I am referring to the two letters
prior to their callsign. I.e. WH - Welsh Ambulance HART EP - West Midlands Ambulance
HART Finally, can you provide me a list of all ambulance stations, outposts, and bases
within SAS.

Response

We note that you have referenced FOIA 2000, please note the Scottish Ambulance Service
is responding under FOISA 2002 (Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002).

A copy of the Scottish Ambulance Service’s Fleet is available on the Scottish Ambulance
Service’s website under frequently asked questions, Frequently Asked Questions. This
includes the vehicle location, make, model etc.

We are withholding this HART codes as the information requested is considered to be
sensitive and therefore exempt under Section 31 (1) national security and defence. Under
Section 31(1), ‘information is exempt information if exemption from disclosure is required for
the purpose of safeguarding national security.’

Section 31 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, is subject to the public interest test.
There is a very strong public interest in preventing the SAS information systems from being
subject to primary or secondary (supply chain) cyber-attacks. Providing the type of
information requested and subsequent online publication, would very likely provide potential
attackers with useful intelligence relating to the callsigns of SAS and possible exposure
through third parties, which is not in the public interest.

A list of all station locations is available on the Scottish Ambulance Service website under
previous FOI 24-455 . This does not include any locations where staff may work from home, this is exempt under section 38(1b) of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 as personal information.
