Could you please advise me if any of your clinical staff administer amiodarone for pulsed VT?, and If so how is this governed?, PGD or section 17, Does the administration apply to all clinical grades?, if not what grades of staff?
If the administration is governed by a PGD would it be possible to have a copy.
Could you please provide numbers of patients recorded as being in pulsed VT in the last 12 months and how many of these received amiodarone pre hospital, And what effect did amiodarone have on the recorded arrythmia and the outcome of the patient interaction
- Response
Amiodarone is an intervention delivered by the medical/doctor led teams. This is not an intervention that is performed elsewhere in the Service, therefore no PGD would be applicable. Our teams would administer it according to BNF (British National Formulary) or UK RESUS Council guidance.
Please see the attached document outlining the medicines utilised in the Scottish Ambulance Service and the clinical grades for administration.
In regard to patients receiving Amiodarone whilst in pulsed VT, this information is not held by the Scottish Ambulance Service as our crews do not administer amiodarone for non-pulsed VT. It is for this reason we have applied section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 as information not held.
