- Information Requested
I am looking at the differences in scope of practice across the UK between community first responders and I would like to understand the clinical skills of your community first responders with regard to use of the following: • Can any of your CFRs use the following drugs: Aspirin, GTN, Paracetamol, Glucagon & Glucogel, Epinephrine, Loratadine, Naloxone, Salbutamol, Penthrox, Entonox. If so do they carry their own supply or is it a patient's own medication. • Can any of your CFRs use the following equipment: NPA, Igel, powered suction, lifting chairs/cushions. If there are restrictions based upon a skill level or additional training to access these skills please could you outline this in the response (e.g. CFR advanced can do etc)

Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) Volunteer Responders are trained in the administration of, and carry a supply of, Naloxone. They are also trained to administer Epinephrine, however this would be the patient's own supply. Under the instruction of a Clinical Adviser, they may assist a patient to take aspirin, paracetamol, GTN and Salbutamol from their own supply. They are not permitted to use Glucagon/Glucogel, Loratadine, Penthrox or Entonox. SAS Volunteer Responders do not currently use any of the equipment specified.
