1 For each of the years 2019 to 2024 inclusive, please set out:
- a) How many ambulance calls to your service were initiated by NHS111.
- b) How many of these resulted in feedback from your service to NHS111 to the effect that the callout was inappropriate
2 For each of the years 2019 to 2024 inclusive, please set out how many ambulance callouts you had.
- Response
Please see attached sheet detailing the number of calls passed to the Scottish Ambulance Service that were initiated by NHS24. These have been identified in our system using ‘Call Method’ NHS Urgent, NHS24, NHS24 Emergency, NHS24 ITK Digital Transfers (these went live in December 2024). The information is inclusive of 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2024.
The information is provided in two tables; the first details how many calls have been passed to the Scottish Ambulance Service from NHS24 and the second table details how many of the calls resulted in an ambulance attending an incident.
Public authorities are not required to create information in order to answer a request. There’s a distinction between creating new information, and compiling information. Where a request can be answered by compiling information from readily-available resources held by the public authority, this is not the same as creating new information. However, if collation of the information would require skill and complex judgement, the information is not held.
We do not hold a dataset of information that reports on whether it was appropriate for an ambulance to attend an incident. It is for this reason that we have applied the exemption Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 as information not held.
