Information Requested

1. A breakdown of the number of Scottish Ambulance Service Board employees grouped by salary bands (e.g.,
£50,000–£55,000, £55,001–£60,000, etc.).
2. The number of Scottish Ambulance Service Board employees whose annual salary is £50,000 or higher.
3. The number of Scottish Ambulance Service Board employees whose annual salary is £80,000 or higher.
4. The number of Scottish Ambulance Service Board employees whose annual salary is £100,000 or higher.

Response

Pay and conditions for NHS staff covered by the Agenda for Change agreement, the information in Q1 has been provided in line with the bands set out in the Agenda for Change. Please see the following information in response to question 1 showing the current staff breakdown by salary band:

Q2 - Public authorities are not required to create information in order to answer a request. There’s a distinction between creating new information, and compiling information. Where a request can be answered by compiling information from readily-available resources held by the public authority, this is not the same as creating new information. However, if collation of the information would require skill and complex judgement, the information is not held. The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold salary information in a way that allows us to report on annual salaries of £50,000 or higher. The reason for this is salaries are held within Bandings and staff could be in different points of their band.
 
The annual salary of £50,000 begins midway through a Band 7, we would be required to review each Band 7 within the service and look at their length of service to see which point they are on. It is for this reason we have applied section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 as information not held.
