If an emergency ambulance crew are stuck outside a patients house can they get the EMD to give them a direct communication with the patient so that the crew can then use their radio to talk with the patient and thus listen for breathing difficulties ? Is this possible ?
- Response
Airwave radio is utilised by the Scottish Ambulance Service as its primary means of voice
communication between the Ambulance Control Centres (ACC’s) and mobile resources. It is a secure,
digital, managed radio network which has been adopted by all emergency services in the UK.
These radios are not set-up for ambulance crews to be passed calls or listen-in to calls received by the ACC. Therefore, it is not possible for the call handler to give the crew direct communication with the patient via the airwave radio.
