Amazing compassion from SAS crew
The family of a woman who was treated for Covid-19 have sent a heartfelt thanks to the Glasgow crew who brought flowers and champagne for her Diamond Wedding Anniversary only to find out she had sadly passed away.
Joe Fallon and Grant Mortimer of Springburn Ambulance Station attended to Agnes Dey, of Bishopbriggs, on January 11.
Positive with Covid-19, the 78-year-old was checked over before she was transferred by the crew to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
While talking with Agnes at her home, Joe and Grant found out she was due to celebrate her Diamond Wedding Anniversary on January 20 with husband George.
Agnes passed away on January 15 while in hospital before they could celebrate their anniversary of 60 years of marriage
Her daughter Suzanne said: “They took time and care to examine mum and reassure her before conveying her to hospital.
“During this time mum explained she had to get better as my dad has been fighting cancer since last May and she kept telling him he had to be here for there for the Diamond anniversary on 20th Jan.
“They were so kind and caring and mum was happy to go with them. Unfortunately, mum did not survive Covid. We are all shocked and grieving so much.
“On January 19, Joe turned up at my parents’ address with a bouquet of flowers, champagne and a beautiful 60th anniversary card from him and Grant.
“It was heartbreaking to tell him mum did not make it and he shed a tear and told us what a truly lovely lady my mum was.
“We are overwhelmed that in the midst of the daily challenges they deal with they took time out and remembered mum and dad’s special day.”
She described Joe and Grant as “truly selfless” and “wonderful people”, adding: “My mum would have been so touched by their generosity.
“No words can say what this act means to the family and we just want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts and they truly have represented the ambulance service and the NHS admirably.
“Thank you Joe and Grant for being such lovely caring people and going above and beyond for your patients.”
