A youngster who suffered a horrific injury after coming off his bike has been given a tour of SAS’s ScotSTAR base by staff who saved his life.

Calon Blacklock, of Cumnock, Ayrshire was riding his bike on May 13 this year when he tumbled off.

An emergency call was made and Kevin Rarity, Steven McIintosh and Dr Peter Davis, attended.

Calon, eight, was airlifted to Glasgow Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, spending the next six days in hospital before he was discharged.

Mum Barbara Wright said: “The care the SAS staff gave him was amazing. They made him feel so comfortable and reassured him, me and his dad at all times. I am so thankful to all the crews involved at his accident - if it wasn’t for them Calon wouldn’t be with us today.”

Calon recently got a chance to get a tour around SAS’s ScotSTAR base, meeting up with staff Steven McIntosh and Dr Davis.

Barbara said it was lovely meeting up with some of the crew again to thank them.

She added: “They all made us all feel so welcome and the crew couldn’t get over the difference in him. Calon had the best day ever and couldn’t thank them enough. They are all truly amazing. I just can’t thank them all enough for what they do to save people’s lives.”

ScotSTAR is a multi-disciplinary team of paramedics, nurses, advanced practitioners, and doctors supported by pilots working together to provide specialist care to seriously ill babies, children and adults across Scotland using specialist helicopters and planes.
