Volunteering with us as a Patient Representative

Volunteering with the Scottish Ambulance Service is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact, shape the future of healthcare, and ensure patient voices are at the heart of our work. Join our Involving People Network and become part of a team dedicated to enhancing services across Scotland.

Who Can Join?

The Involving People Network is open to members of the public, former patients, carers, patient group representatives, and individuals passionate about contributing to healthcare improvement. This network brings together diverse perspectives to drive positive change.

What Makes This Role Unique?

This is an office-based and strategic role, not a clinical or first-responder position. As a Patient Focus and Public Involvement (PfPI) Volunteer, you’ll engage in initiatives that shape how the Scottish Ambulance Service serves the public. Your voice will play a pivotal role in improving patient care, guiding policy, and ensuring our services are inclusive and responsive to community needs.

What Will You Do?

As a volunteer, you can choose activities that align with your interests, including:

  • Attending National and Regional Involving People Groups: Contribute to discussions that shape strategic decisions.
  • Providing Feedback: Review and critique service documents, guidelines, and public engagement materials.
  • Sharing Your Story: Participate in media events or offer insights from your own experiences.
  • Supporting Surveys: Help us gather vital data to improve services.
  • Collaborating on Strategic Projects: Work with Service teams to refine patient engagement strategies and develop new initiatives.

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Impact: Play a vital role in shaping healthcare services across Scotland.
  • Growth: Gain valuable experience in strategic decision-making and public engagement.
  • Support: Benefit from comprehensive training, including induction programs, equality training, and ongoing guidance from SAS staff.
  • Flexibility: Engage in virtual or in-person meetings and workshops at a pace that suits you.
  • Recognition: Be part of a respected team and receive reimbursement for reasonable expenses.
